Designed by Harry S Colt, Longniddry is a unique combination of parkland and links, situated at the start of Scotland’s Golf Coast.
The hybrid course makes Longniddry interesting and varied, with large, raised greens, tricky approaches, guarded par 3s and great views. Although not a long course, it is designed to reward the strategic player with eight par 4s measuring over 400 yards. There are no par 5s.
Formerly an Open qualifying course, Longniddry is regularly asked to host amateur competitions including The Scottish Open qualifiers, Lothian Golf Association Championships and The Babe Zaharias. In 2023, the club hosted the Scottish Girls Open Championship.
Longniddry opened in 1921, with an inaugural 36-hole match featuring notable golf legends James Braid, Ted Ray, J.H. Taylor, and Abe Mitchell. To Mary Queen of Scots, it is as far back as 1567 that golf is said to have been played in the Longniddry area.
