Only 20 minutes from the centre of Edinburgh, Musselburgh Golf Club presents an irresistible challenge for the experienced golfer yet is fun and forgiving for newcomers.
Lush and secluded, long and wide, Musselburgh has not changed since the 1930s. The stamp of James Braid is for all to see, with inviting fairways, quality bunkers, and the design taking full advantage of the landscape. Surrounded by mature woodland, charactersitic burns, and with strategy at a premium, Musselburgh is a solid test.
The course has hosted many amateur and professional championships over the years including the Scottish Professional Championship on 2 occasions. The Royal & Ancient Golf Club chose the course as host for the Regional Open Qualifier for Scotland from 2006 until 2010. The R&A were obviously impressed and decided to include the course as a Local Final Qualifier Venue in 2013 for the Open Championship at Muirfield.
It is said that James Braid invented the dog-leg, which is very much in evidence on the 5th and 10th at Musselburgh. James Braid officially opened the course on 10 May 1938, marking the occasion with a four-ball alongside Percy Alliss, and Open champions Henry Cotton and Alf Padgham.
